How Long is the Life Expectation of Stage 4 Lung Cancer Patients?

Ichsan Yasin Limpo reportedly died in Japan as he struggled with stage 4 lung cancer.

In all cancers, stage 4 is an advanced stage where life expectancy is generally very small.

Usually at this stage, cancer cells have metastasized or spread from organs overgrown with tumors, in this case the lungs, to other body organs.

The Cancer Center site says about 40 percent of patients are diagnosed with lung cancer when they are in stage 4.

In a release received by detikHealth some time ago, health practitioners from the Indonesian Medical Faculty-Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Prof. Dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, SpPD-KGEH said that usually in advanced cancer patients or 4 the condition or prognosis can be predicted by a doctor.

"Doctors can predict the survival rate in 1 year or 5 years. The further the illness, the lower the life expectancy. Knowing information about life expectancy becomes important to be known by patients and families so that patients and families are better prepared to face death," he wrote.

There are three things that can happen to cancer patients after undergoing the treatment process, namely remission, remission with sequelae or death.

Death that occurs can indeed be predicted at the beginning when the certainty of the patient's diagnosis is enforced.

Dr. Ari said that lung cancer is the biggest cause of death in men.

In a five-year survival rate, stage 4 cancer patients only have 4.7 percent.
